Tax Credits

The federal government has set the goal of ensuring that 25% of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2025. Solar will play a significant role in fulfilling this goal.

Federal Credits

The federal government offers a renewable energy incentive of 30% of the cost of a system as a tax credit. SunBug designs systems that are in compliance with all federal reporting regulations in order to take complete advantage of that tax incentive.

State Credits

In Massachusetts, the state offers direct rebates for both Solar Electric and Solar Hot Water systems based upon the size of the system, its efficiency, the components used, and home value. SunBug designs its systems in conjunction with the state’s rebate matrix to get the maximum Massachusetts energy rebate.

State energy rebates can reduce the cost of a system by 10-20%, meaning that with federal energy incentives, you could see a saving of up to 50% on your solar system.

Solar and Home Value

Department of Energy research shows that buyers pay more for homes with rooftop solar panels when the system is owned by the homeowner rather than leased though a Leasing or Residential PPA company. The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory study found that buyers were willing to pay a premium of about four additional dollars per watt for a home with the average-size solar photovoltaic system.
