Maintaining Your System

Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy systems generally require little, if any, regular maintenance.

Their robust equipment, components, and materials are designed for daily use, and are engineered to withstand the extremes of New England weather for decades to come. As with any technological product, however, various issues may arise from time to time. That’s why SunBug maintains a full-time customer service team to ensure that disruptions to your solar system are both infrequent and of short duration.

Corrective Maintenance

SunBug recognizes that time is money when it comes to reaping the benefits of your solar investment. System outages, equipment failures, and/or performance degradations all impact your bottom line. SunBug’s customer service team is both experienced and well-equipped to correct unplanned problems and restore full operation to your system in a timely fashion, including those disruptions related to:

  • Electrical issues (e.g., damaged wires, voltage irregularities, loose connections, blown fuses)
  • Inoperable equipment (e.g., faulty inverter)
  • Reduced performance (e.g., intermittent equipment outages, low module production)
  • Monitoring outages (e.g., Internet communications glitches)
  • Weather-related damage (e.g., lightning strikes, snow/ice/hailstone damage)
  • Critter-related issues (e.g., squirrel-chewed wires)

Preventive Maintenance

Residential home ownership transfers are a common phenomenon, and solar-equipped homes are no exception. Whether you’re selling your solarized home or buying a home with solar already installed, a physical inspection and electrical assessment of the condition of a solar system provides valuable information for both the buyer and the seller. SunBug’s residential inspection services include the following elements:

  • Solar modules – inspect for any signs of damage, discoloration, delamination, and soiling
  • Wiring – assess the condition of wire insulation and wire management
  • Electrical conduits – inspect (and correct if needed) the tightness of couplings and connectors
  • Racking and accessible mounting components – inspect (and correct if needed) racking alignment as well as the tightness of grounding conductors and module clamps
  • Electrical equipment – assess (and correct if needed) the tightness of electrical terminals within inverters, disconnect switches, combiners, and the production meter
  • Inverter – measure voltage and amperage of all input and output lines

Solar Electric System Warranties

SunBug provides a 10 year installation Workmanship Warranty for every solar system that we install for residential customers.

In addition, product warranties are provided by each manufacturer whose equipment is incorporated into your solar system.  Typically, Manufacturers’ Product Warranties do not cover the service labor needed to replace the faulty equipment.

However, during the first year of your system’s operation, SunBug will waive all service costs and labor expenses incurred to troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace any underperforming or faulty products incorporated into your solar installation.

And as a value-added complement to solar equipment manufacturers’ limited product warranties, SunBug offers an Enhanced Product Warranty Extension to SunBug’s first-year enhanced product warranty coverage period that may be purchased as part of the original installation or during your system’s first year of operation.
