SunBug Solar Builds 142 kW Solar System for Affordable Housing Community

SunBug Solar has recently completed construction of a 142 kW array at the Melpet Farm Residences, a 27-unit affordable housing community in Dennis, MA. Thanks to their SunBug Solar PV System, the residents of Melpet Farm will have close to zero net energy consumption from day one.

The Melpet Farm Residences were built at near Net Zero standards, a notable achiement considering that all 27 units are qualified affordable housing. This was made possible, in large part, by the cost effectiveness that solar enjoys in today’s market. Each year, Melpet Farms can expect to generate $30,000 in energy savings and $25,000 in SREC revenue from their 142 kW PV system—all while sharply reducing residents’ carbon footprints and energy costs. Projects like the Melpet Farm Residences are proof that it is possible to apply sustainable building practices into a socially responsible, affordable community project.
