Cheney has spent his career as an entrepreneur with a particular focus on customer responsive organizations supported by data driven processes. In 1990 he founded Brand Software, Inc., where he served as its president and chairman of the board and grew the company from a startup to the market leader in behavioral health office management. He led product development throughout his tenure, and in 1999 negotiated the sale of Brand Software to VantageMed, Inc.
Cheney has always been passionate about music and in 2001 left software to pursue that passion at music at Berklee College of Music where he studied both production & engineering and song writing.
Then, In 2008 he set out to learn the solar energy market, and in 2009 launched Sunbug Solar with Ben Mayer, starting in his little home recording studio. The goal was to build the most responsive and responsible solar contracting business in the industry, for vendors and peers as well as customers. Those tenants remain pillars of Sunbug’s mission.
Today, Cheney spends his time behind the scenes building tools and processes to drive operations and support the responsive customer experience for which Sunbug is known.
