Better Together!

Sunbug Solar is Joining ReVision Energy

We are excited to share the news of ReVision Energy’s acquisition of Sunbug Solar. The Sunbug team will be joining forces with ReVision Energy, a New England based company and the largest employee-owned solar installer in the country. Together, we will be able to serve more residents and business owners in Massachusetts and beyond. ReVision Energy is a fellow B Corp and member of the Amicus Solar Cooperative, with 20 years of experience installing and maintaining solar in Maine, New Hampshire, and Eastern Massachusetts.

ReVision has been installing high-quality solar and clean energy projects in Massachusetts since 2017. They bring with them a holistic set of all-electric technology – heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and battery storage – which will enable our customers to further reduce household dependence on fossil fuels. By combining Sunbug’s deep Massachusetts knowledge with ReVision’s resources and expertise, we can deploy more solar and beneficial electrification across northern New England.

The brand transition will occur gradually and is expected to be complete in mid-2024. During the transition, our offices in Woburn and Westfield will unite with ReVision Energy’s North Andover office to operate as ReVision Energy. Sunbug’s 60 employees will join ReVision Energy’s team of 400 employee co-owners and become eligible to be employee-owners as well. ReVision is fully assuming warranties for all existing Sunbug customers, and after the transition our 3,000 clients will be serviced by ReVision Energy’s team.

Meet ReVision Energy

Started in Maine in 2003, ReVision Energy is a 100% employee-owned solar company and Certified B Corp on a mission to build a better future through solar energy. In 2017, they started servicing residents and businesses in Eastern Massachusetts. They install and service a comprehensive set of all-electric technology – solar, heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, battery storage, and EV chargers – to combat the climate crisis by reducing New England’s dependence on fossil fuels.

With a B Corp score of 150, they are in the top 5% of B Corps globally, proving that business can be used as a force for good. Sunbug Solar has worked closely with ReVision for years as fellow members of the Amicus Cooperative, a national collective of independent, mission-driven solar companies. With over 400 employee co-owners and over 15,000 installations, ReVision is consistently ranked the #1 solar installer in northern New England by Solar Power World. In addition to their North Andover branch, they have two branches in New Hampshire and two in Maine.

“The alignment between our two companies is extremely strong. Our experience in the highly competitive Massachusetts solar market is that customers are looking for an energy company they can trust, and ReVision is the partner we trust to build on our 14-year reputation of unwavering quality.”

Making Life Better Together

Joining forces with ReVision benefits everyone – our team, our customers, and our communities. ReVision brings with them resources and positive, impact-driven business practices that will greatly support the overall growth of solar in Massachusetts and beyond. Together, we are:

The combined team lives and works in the communities we serve. With the increased presence of large national solar corporations performing low-quality installations across Massachusetts, ReVision Energy and Sunbug are committed to providing technical excellence and long-term service to our customers.

Like Sunbug Solar, ReVision Energy is united by a shared mission and set of values that show up in the daily work they do. We are excited by the overlap in our teams’ values: Responsibility and Accountability, Curiosity and Continuous Improvement, Clarity and Integrity, Excellence and Quality, and a belief in the power of Kindness, Diversity, and Humanity.

Both companies are Certified B Corps, putting people and planet before profit. Together we are proving that using business as a force for good is also good for business.  ReVision improves upon Sunbug’s B Corp credentials, with a score of 150 and many years of recognition by B Labs as a “Best for the World” company.

14-year old Sunbug has frequently collaborated with 20-year old ReVision, as both are longstanding members of the Amicus Cooperative, a national collective of the highest quality independent, mission-driven solar companies. For the better part of a decade, we have shared ideas and experiences to help each other solve challenges and provide best practice solutions.

Expanding Access to Quality Electrification in MA

To meet the state’s climate goals of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, Massachusetts will need to install between 27 and 34 GW of solar energy. This is more than 10 times the amount of solar currently installed in Massachusetts and will require rapid acceleration of solar development at a residential and commercial scale. This transition must be done in a way that is equitable, cost-effective, and inclusive of our most vulnerable communities. Sunbug and ReVision believe this can be achieved through collaboration rather than competition.

With this acquisition, we will be able to bring ReVision’s range of all-electric technology – heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, battery storage, and EV chargers – to Sunbug’s community, allowing new and existing customers to further reduce household dependence on fossil fuels. Working together, our teams can effectively advocate for clean energy regulation and provide a comprehensive range of solar and clean energy solutions to all Massachusetts communities.

“We’ve had a long relationship with Sunbug through our mutual membership in the Amicus Solar Cooperative and share the mission to electrify the future in a fair and just way. Together, we will expedite the renewable energy revolution and help more Massachusetts residents access this valuable resource. We are excited to bring the Sunbug team on as ReVision Energy employee-owners.
