Kevin Crowley was determined to demonstrate his environmental commitment to the community with rooftop solar for his warehouse complex, visible from I-190. Working with Kevin, SunBug designed and installed his 130 kW, 500-panel photovoltaic system, with a goal of entirely eliminating his annual electricity bill. SunBug supported Crowley to help secure project financing from a local bank, Avidia.
The 546 Yingli Solar 235-watt photovoltaic modules output over 150,000 kilowatt hours per year. Over an anticipated 30-year lifecycle, the array will offset 3,200 tons of CO2, equivalent to:
• Eliminating the emissions from 365,000 gallons of gasoline,
• The carbon sequestered annually from 700 acres of pine forest,
• The greenhouse gasses avoided by recycling 1000 tons of waste, instead of sending it to landfill.
"SunBug's performance was outstanding. From initial design and pricing through final design, permitting, installation, and commissioning, they went above and beyond our expectations."

Unicorr Packaging Group partnered with SunBug Solar to install a 575 kilowatt (kW) solar system on the roof of their manufacturing plant in Marlborough. The system provides the facility with clean, renewable energy and an excellent return on investment.
Unicorr manufactures corrugated containers, displays and retail packaging, and protective packaging. Since 1946, Unicorr has distinguished itself by its integrity and its manufacturing, design and service excellence, being among the largest converters of corrugated products and protective packaging in the Northeast. Practicing lean thinking to promote efficiency, sustainability and the elimination of waste along with a customer-partnership philosophy, has led to Unicorr’s success and growth.
Solar was the next logical step for Unicorr in their sustainability journey. They started reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in 2010 and now use almost 20% less energy to produce the same number of boxes as they did in 2009. Solar presented a win-win solution that further improved the company’s environmental footprint while producing excellent returns and hedging against escalating utility costs.
“As we explored possibilities, we learned that a solar system can be a compelling investment. Given the sustainability benefits and financial returns from the project, we would have doubled the size of the array if roof load had allowed.”
Hap Perkins, Unicorr Packaging Group Chief Executive Officer and President

SunBug's 9.6 kW, 40-panel system for Dan Galvin establishes his Somerville HVAC company as a community leader and true green business. Dan's system production, combined with SREC revenue, will cover his entire annual electric bill. His metering system tracks in real-time his solar system performance, and over time, offers Dan a clear picture of his financial return. And it is a strong return: the system is projected to pay for itself in 3 years, with an anticipated 22 years of net positive cash flow.
